Cheryl Bachelder

Today, Cheryl’s aim is to encourage and invest in the development of CEOs and boards, helping them to create places where people thrive and perform their best work, in both for-profit and non-profit workplaces.

Cheryl serves as a director and chair of the compensation committee at US Foods Holding Corp (USFD). She is currently the lead independent director at Chick-fil-A, Inc. She serves as an advisor to three Christian ministry boards on the topics of strategy, talent, and succession. She is a mentor to eleven Christian women in c-suite responsibilities through her role in the CEO Forum, an organization that disciples Christian CEOs and senior leaders. Previously, she has been involved with leadership development for CRU’s senior leaders around the world.

Cheryl holds Bachelor and Master of Business Administration degrees from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. She is married to Chris Bachelder and they have three grown daughters, two terrific sons-in-law, and five handsome grandsons. Cheryl and Chris reside in Pinehurst, North Carolina. They are fans of the classical education movement, deeply invoiced in the work of Hillsdale College and Sandhills Classical Christian School. They attend Christ Community Church.

He has a long and faithful history of service to SCCS—as a parent, chess teacher, board member, Chair of Development, and ultimately as Chairman of the Board. During his tenure as Chair, he signed the school’s first high school diploma and helped guide SCCS through milestones including the purchase of our current campus land, construction of the first two buildings, leadership transitions across four Heads of School, financial struggles, ACCS accreditation and the challenges of staying open during COVID. With 34 years of legal experience representing governments and businesses, William brings seasoned judgment and steady leadership to the Board.

Sarah Lyle

Sarah Lyle brings more than 20 years of experience in operations, organizational strategy, and workforce planning, helping organizations align people, processes, and long-term goals to achieve their mission. She currently works as an Enablement Lead at ProFinda, a workforce optimization software company, after spending several years at Korn Ferry, a global organizational consulting firm. Sarah and her husband, Dan, have been married for 25 years and have two children at Sandhills Classical Christian School. Their family has been committed to classical Christian education since both children began kindergarten, first at Paideia Classical Christian School in Tampa, where Sarah previously served on the Board of Directors during a Head of School transition, and now at SCCS, where they’ve been since 2022. In addition to more than 20 years of ministry experience serving alongside her husband and leading women’s Bible studies, Sarah is passionate about strengthening Christian education through thoughtful governance and faithful stewardship.

Brandon Wood

Brandon Wood currently serves as the Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care and Missions at Aberdeen First Baptist Church. He previously served 20 years in the United States Air Force as a Pararescueman, retiring April 1, 2020. He holds a B.A., M.A. in Christian Ministry, and MDiv. from Liberty University. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate of Biblical Counseling at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife Leah have four amazing children, their oldest son is a current high school student at SCCS. In his free time, he loves spending time with his family, hunting, reading, and volunteering as an assistant coach for SCCS baseball. Brandon is passionate about Classical Christian Education, desires to see young lives forever changed through the Gospel and is dedicated to see students pursue what is true, good, and beautiful.

Bonnie Wurzbacher

Over her 40-year professional career, Bonnie Jo spent thirty years in business, ultimately leading the global customer sales teams for The Coca-Cola Company, based at their headquarters in Atlanta. She began her career as a public school teacher in Chicago. She then devoted the last five years of her career serving, in London, on the executive team of World Vision, Int’l (the largest Christian humanitarian aid and development organization in the world).  Bonnie Jo grew up as the daughter of a non-denominational minister and school teacher, as well as the granddaughter of missionaries to Vietnam.  She earned a B.A. in Education from Wheaton College and an M.B.A. in General Management from Emory University.  As a passionate speaker and experienced teacher on the topic of Christian Worldview, especially in one’s work, she was honored to be the commencement speaker at Wheaton College in 2021. She has served as a director on many boards, including two corporate boards, several non-profit boards and as an Elder at her former church.  Bonnie Jo and her husband, Steve, moved to Pinehurst in 2021 where they now reside full-time. They are active members at The Village Chapel and serve in various, volunteer roles at SCCS and in the broader community. They have one married son and a grandson, along with a large extended family (of 50) spread across the country, that they enjoy loving well.
